The Canary Islands are a great option but my favourite has to be the island of Tenerife. It gives you the wonderful Costa Adeje region with a vast choice of luxury hotels including the Bahia del Duque, the Ritz-Carlton Abama and the Iberostar Grand El Mirador. I would always suggest you hire a car and explore the island at least one or two days. From the stunning Mount Teide, or even a boat trip to Whale watch, Tenerife has many surprises.
If you are keen to explore a more exotic location why not consider Marrakech, Morocco. You may miss out on sea views from this option, but the views of the Atlas Mountains are sure to capture your heart. This ancient town full of Riads and the hussel of the market palce, leads you to the calm of the home and gardens of Yves Saint Lauren – now a beautiful museum for all to enjoy. Its easy to escape the busy Souks when staying in any of the luxury hotels. I particularly love the villas within the Mandarin Oriental, or for families why not consider the Four Seasons Resort. However having enjoyed several nights at the fabulous Kasbah Tamadot high in the Atlas Mountains, this is certainly one for the romantics.
